With both the original and translated words plus music for 198 anthems, this guide includes countries from Armenia to Zimbabwe. All the latest changes are incorporated : the anthem of the new state of Timor-Leste, formerly East Timor, which became independent in 2002, and replacement anthems for Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Iraq, Mozambique, Rwanda, and Somalia. And where the country's language is not written in Roman script, the lyrics are transliterated phonetically.

About the author (2006)

Michael Bristow is a composer, music editor, music historian and church organist and acquired an interest in national anthems as a teenager at school and has since become of the world's leading experts. In 1984 he was elected a FRGS. In 1984 Michael became co-editor of the sixth edition of NATIONAL ANTHEMS OF THE WORLD and has ensured ever since that the many changes around the world are reflected in each new edition. He is also editor of the STATE SONGS OF AMERICA and is working on two new books, STATE ANTHEMS OF MALAYSIA and PROVINCIAL SONGS OF CANADA. Michael now lives in Norway.
