About the author (2001)

Andrei Codrescu, who lived in socialist Romania until the age of nineteen, has been a commentator on NPR for more than ten years. He lives in New Orleans, Louisiana.
David Graham's photographs have appeared in "Life," "The New York Times Magazine "and other publications. He lives in Pennsylvania.

Eleonore Kofman is Professor in the Department of International Studies at Nottingham Trent University.
Elizabeth Lebas is Senior Lecturer in the School of Geography at Middlesex University. Both have researched and written extensively on French urbanization and urban theory.
