About the author (2009)

Daniel Barenboim made his debut as a conductor with the New Philharmonic Orchestra in London in 1967 and was Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris from 1975 to 1989. In 1991 he was named Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and, in 1992, General Music Director of the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin. He has been associated with the Bayreuth Festival since 1981. He lives in Germany.
