I am a genealogical researcher for over 20 years, my special interest is Dutch Colonial families of New Netherland (New York) in the 17th century. This often leads to specific detailed research in the Netherlands. A family connection brought me to Lucretia de Beauvois second wife of Herman Hermans Saftleven. In the above named book Lucretia is said to be about 18 years old, about the same age as her eldest stepson Cornelis Saftleven. The author gives no source for this statement.
My research shows NO evidence of Lucretia's birth or baptismal date, she is recorded in Rotterdam at time of her marriage as "jongedochter" which means "unmarried women" (the word does not refer to "being young"
There is no witness to the marriage indicating that she was of age.
Lucretia is named in a will of "Maria Martensdr. vrouw van Niclaes Luycx
names as heir Lucretia Beauvois hantschoenwerker NN" 14 March 1607.
This means Lucretia had a job, namely "glovemaker"
It is not likely that Lucretia was born around 1606 (claimed birthdate of Cornelis Saftleven)or later. She was of age at time of her marriage, likely to be around 24 years or certainly older.
