Conceptual Art: The NSCAD Connection 1967-1973![]() Published by the Anna Leonowens Gallery (NSCAD University), Conceptual Art: The NSCAD Connection 1967-1973 is the follow-up publication to the exhibition of the same name presented during the 1994 University Art Association of Canada (UAAC) conference hosted by the university. The exhibition catalogue includes transcripts and expanded essays based on presentations given at the UAAC by Dennis Young, Garry Neill Kennedy, Gerald Ferguson, Iain Baxter, David Askevold, and Charlotte Townsend-Gault. In Lucy Lippard's book Six Years: The Dematerialization of the Art Object (New York, Praeger 1973) there are several references to Halifax and NSCAD within the so-called classic period of Conceptual Art (1966-1971). This exhibition provided a context for a re-examination of these years, and particularly, NSCAD's role in the development of Conceptualism in Canada and internationally through the exhibition of works cited in the Lippard book, along with others from the same period, produced by NSCAD faculty and students. The exhibition, curated by Professor Bruce Barber, along with Professor Emeritus Dennis Young, included works by David Askevold, Alice Aycock, John Baldessari, Robert Barry, Mel Boucher, James Lee Byars, Roger Cutforth, Jan Dibbets, Graham Dube, Gerald Ferguson, Dennis Gill, Dan Graham, John Greer, Douglas Huebler, Richards Jarden, Pat Kelly, Garry Neill Kennedy, Joseph Kosuth, Sol LeWitt, Lucy Lippard, Lee Lozano, Ian Murray, N.E. Thing Co., Harold Pearse, Richard Robertson, Tony Shafrazi, Robert Smithson, Thos Taylor, Douglas Waterman, Lawrence Weiner, Martha Wilson, and Tim Zuck. |
