Muhammad and Jesus: A Comparison of the Prophets and Their Teachings
Here is a thoroughly researched and provocative study of the two most influential figures in Western history. The book begins with a comprehensive biographical investigation of the early lives of the Meccan and the Nazarene, and a thoughtful assessment of their later contributions as statesman and reformer. Phipps then debunks many of the invidious myths about Jesus and Muhammad during the course of a careful exploration of the ways in which they interpreted Hebrew scripture, their prescriptions for moral conduct, and their attitudes toward rewards and punishment on earth and in the afterlife.

Muhammad and Jesus: a comparison of the prophets and their teachingsUser Review - Book Verdict
Muhammad and Jesus are strongly contrasting historical figures, raised up as spiritual and moral paradigms by opposing, hostile camps. Often badly understood by believers within their own faith traditions, the two prophets are grossly misperceived by believers outside. Phipps (philosophy, Davis and Elkins Coll.) hopes that Christians and Muslims can begin to understand one another by studying Muhammad and Jesus, respectively, and by drawing comparisons between them. His work, well researched and executed, will reward the serious student of religious thought. Since it is written for Western readers, the author strives especially to correct our faulty ideas of Muhammad, but he also shows how the teachings of Jesus are poorly known among Muslims. For academic libraries as well as public libraries with substantial religious collections.--James F. DeRoche, Alexandria, Va.
Review: Muhammad and Jesus: A Comparison of the Prophets and Their TeachingsUser Review - Patty - Goodreads
This book took quite awhile to slog through. The author's writing is often slow moving and rather dull. It was worth reading to gain an understanding of the author's views on Jesus, Muhammad and religion in general, but not one I would recommend or read again. Read full review
