"Goomba" is Sicilian for "crony" or "pal", and author Steven Schirripa, a star of HBO's "The Sopranos", has met a million of them in his journey from Bensonhurst, NY to Hollywood. In THE GOOMBA'S GUIDE TO LIFE, he draws on his Italian heritage and childhood spent on the fringes of the mob, his stint as a casino maitre d' in Las Vegas, and his current gig as "Bobby Baccala" on one of TV's most popular shows to help anyone put a little goomba in their gait. Much as The Official Preppy Handbook showed wanna-be WASPS how to dress for white-bread success, and as Jeff Foxworthy's You Might Be A Redneck If... helped people find their hillbilly, white trash roots, THE GOOMBA'S GUIDE TO LIFE will instruct readers in the heretofore hidden ways of goomba life: How to think goomba, speak goomba, cook and eat goomba, how to behave at goomba weddings and funerals, how to sing like a Soprano and look smart even if you're not a wiseguy. Readers will leam what music to enjoy (Sinatra yes. Snoop Doggy Dog no), what movies to watch ("Raging Bull" yes, "Titanic" never), what sports to support (baseball is good; golf and tennis, fugeddaboudit), what cultural events to attend (the fights, good; the ballet, what are you, drunk?) and even goomba dating tips. The reader will be shown Goomba dos and Don'ts (always wear more jewelry than you think you need) and given handy lists of Things A Goomba Will Never Say ("Two tickets for 'The Vagina Monologues,' please," or "Guilty, your honor") and Things A Goomba Will Never Do (eat a Dominos pizza, shop at Kmart, attend an anger management seminar). They'll leam how a real goomba gets the best seat in the house, the best girl on the block, and the best price on a new car. (Hint: These involve tipping, jewelry and intimidation). Written by "Sopranos" co-star (and Bensonhurst native) Steve Schirripa and former Newsweek reporter Charles Fleming, THE GOOMBA'S GUIDE TO LIFE includes chapters on Goomba Cooking, Goomba Movies, Great Goombas in History, all woven into the hilarious personal story of Schiiripa's journey from the streets of Brooklyn to the top casinos of Vegas to the set ofHBO's hit series, "The Sopranos." It's the perfect book for every "Sopranos" fan, and every wiseguy wanna-be.

I always pack this book when I am returning to college in the fall. It's a quick and easy read, but hilarious all the same. When I need a break from studying, I gladly turn to Schirripa's "guide". Anyone who knows anything about wiseguys will get a kick out of it. Read full review

Given that Schirripa smashes the world record for times saying goomba in a 200 page book (which in all honesty is now in the thousands) its an entertaining book. Bobby Bacala isn't a particularly ... Read full review
