Zeldin is a remarkable mind and a person of extraordinary brilliance in terms of writing. However, this bookd fell short on my expectations. perhaps i was expecting a lot more, influence by the author's masterpiece - 'An intimate history of humanity'. The book does have some gems of reflections and observations but overall I did not find it too engaging.
