During visits to museums, I'd typically breeze through the sections on Chinese and Japanese art, as I didn't particularly find scroll paintings and porcelainware depicting the same old floral motifs ...

About the author (2008)

Patricia Bjaaland Welch is a former lecturer in Chinese philosophy and art at Boston University. She is a frequent lecturer on subjects relating to Chinese art and history, and currently resides in Singapore.
